With autumn fast approaching we might be looking to say goodbye to airy pinks and cross over to the darker side for for a cosier home vibe. Autumnal shades such as burnt oranges, terracotta, chocolate brown, mossy greens and mustards all feature high in the list of top seasonal colours.

One obvious way to inject new colour at home is with a lick of paint, the trick is to pair darker shades with plenty of warm , grounding neutrals so they embrace rather than overwhelm. Consider refreshing woodwork and cabinetry with hues such as mulberry, plum, burnt orange or rich olive – all great for adding a contemporary and dramatic look. Lighter shades such as creamy terracottas can be kinder on walls and look great on pannelling, especially in smaller spaces.

If you don’t want to go all out with paint, think of incorporating warmer jewel tones into your home with seasonal bedding or wool throws, cushions and rugs; all perfect for cosy nights in by the fire.
